R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, For 20 years, the Department of Public Safety Mentor
  Program at Reilly Elementary School in Austin has been making a
  positive difference in the lives of young Texans; and
         WHEREAS, Pioneered during the 1997-1998 school year, this
  inspiring program pairs students at Reilly Elementary with DPS
  employees, who eat lunch and spend time with the children on a
  weekly basis; during its first year, 10 DPS employees participated
  in the initiative, and today more than 100 mentors volunteer their
  time; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to serving as role models, these caring
  men and women also host an annual year-end party for the students
  and organize fund-raising events to support field trips and provide
  school supplies, winter coats, and holiday gifts for those in need;
  in recognition of its notable efforts, the program was awarded the
  2014 Business Partner of the Year honor by Austin Partners in
  Education; and
         WHEREAS, The participants of the DPS Mentor Program at Reilly
  Elementary have demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the
  quality of life in their community, and their willingness to give of
  their time and talents sets an outstanding example of civic
  engagement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 20th anniversary of the
  Department of Public Safety Mentor Program at Reilly Elementary
  School in Austin and extend to all those associated with the program
  sincere best wishes for continued success with their important
  work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the department as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
