R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is marking 31
  years of service in 2017; and
         WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is a statewide
  organization made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds who
  share a commitment to promoting the participation of women in
  public, corporate, and civic life; members of HWNT seek to advance
  the educational, cultural, social, legal, and economic well-being
  of all women while also celebrating and fostering a positive image
  of Hispanic culture across the state; and
         WHEREAS, The idea for the network originated in 1986 when
  several area leaders came together to discuss the need for such an
  organization; their efforts culminated in a 1987 conference in
  Dallas that drew a contingent of 200 women from every geographic
  area of Texas, who pledged to continue to work to address issues of
  import to Hispanic women; and
         WHEREAS, Since the group's founding, it has supported a range
  of important initiatives, including educational and mentoring
  programs, the Women's Right to Vote Celebration, the Hispanic
  Summit and Emerging Leaders Conference, the HWNT State Conference,
  and various achievement awards and ceremonies; the organization now
  has chapters in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso,
  Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley, and South
  Texas, as well as a student chapter at The University of Texas at
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Members of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas are
  united in the goal of building a brighter future for Hispanic women
  in the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving of
  commendation for their many good works; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Hispanic
  Women's Network of Texas and extend to its members sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
