R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is marking 31 |
|
|
years of service in 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas is a statewide |
|
|
organization made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds who |
|
|
share a commitment to promoting the participation of women in |
|
|
public, corporate, and civic life; members of HWNT seek to advance |
|
|
the educational, cultural, social, legal, and economic well-being |
|
|
of all women while also celebrating and fostering a positive image |
|
|
of Hispanic culture across the state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The idea for the network originated in 1986 when |
|
|
several area leaders came together to discuss the need for such an |
|
|
organization; their efforts culminated in a 1987 conference in |
|
|
Dallas that drew a contingent of 200 women from every geographic |
|
|
area of Texas, who pledged to continue to work to address issues of |
|
|
import to Hispanic women; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since the group's founding, it has supported a range |
|
|
of important initiatives, including educational and mentoring |
|
|
programs, the Women's Right to Vote Celebration, the Hispanic |
|
|
Summit and Emerging Leaders Conference, the HWNT State Conference, |
|
|
and various achievement awards and ceremonies; the organization now |
|
|
has chapters in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, |
|
|
Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, the Rio Grande Valley, and South |
|
|
Texas, as well as a student chapter at The University of Texas at |
|
|
Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Members of the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas are |
|
|
united in the goal of building a brighter future for Hispanic women |
|
|
in the Lone Star State, and they are indeed deserving of |
|
|
commendation for their many good works; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 31st anniversary of the Hispanic |
|
|
Women's Network of Texas and extend to its members sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
