R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jon Parker Brooks of Collin College has earned a
  coveted place in the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars
  program in Houston in May 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Funded in part by the Minority University Research
  and Education Program, this initiative seeks to encourage student
  interest in subjects critical to the success of NASA's missions,
  including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brooks distinguished himself throughout the
  competitive application process, which included a five-week online
  program, various seminars and tests, and a final project that
  involved the design of the next Mars rover; among the top scorers,
  he was one of only 348 students nationwide to earn an invitation to
  the four-day workshop at the Johnson Space Center; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan is gaining valuable
  knowledge through his participation in this exciting program, and
  his experiences as an aerospace scholar will be of great benefit in
  his future endeavors; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jon Parker Brooks on his selection
  as a NASA Community College Aerospace Scholar and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         R
  ESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Brooks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
