R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The football team of Calallen High School in Corpus |
|
|
Christi enjoyed an exceptional 2016 season, advancing all the way |
|
|
to the University Interscholastic League 5A Division 2 state |
|
|
championship game on December 16 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Wildcats dropped |
|
|
only a single contest and reeled off an impressive eight-game |
|
|
winning streak to secure the District 30-5A crown; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Continuing its commanding play in the postseason, |
|
|
the team dominated Uvalde High School in the opening round before |
|
|
recording a shutout against Mercedes High School; the Wildcats |
|
|
followed that performance with wins over Boerne Champion and |
|
|
Victoria East High Schools, and then they clinched a spot in the |
|
|
state finale with a dramatic 31-30 victory against College Station |
|
|
High School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Wildcats turned in a valiant performance versus |
|
|
Aledo High School in the 5A Division 2 championship showdown, |
|
|
carrying the battle into the final minutes of the game, but they |
|
|
were ultimately defeated, concluding the season with an outstanding |
|
|
record of 14 wins and only 2 losses; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, the Wildcats |
|
|
received valuable contributions from each member of the roster over |
|
|
the course of the 2016 campaign; these dedicated athletes were ably |
|
|
guided by head coach Phil Danaher and his staff, whose leadership |
|
|
and expertise helped inspire the squad to reach its full potential; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through talent, hard work, and an unwavering |
|
|
determination to excel, the members of the 2016 Calallen High |
|
|
School football team are a source of immense pride to their school |
|
|
and their community, and it is a pleasure to commend them on a job |
|
|
well done; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Calallen High School football |
|
|
team on its outstanding 2016 season and extend to all those |
|
|
associated with the team sincere best wishes for continued success; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
