H.R. No. 1857

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Dorothy Louise Midkiff of Waxahachie on January 20, 2017, at the age of 87; and

WHEREAS, The daughter of Charles and Lillie Davenport, Dorothy Midkiff was born in Gunter on September 23, 1929, and grew up with the companionship of a brother, Don; she graduated from Tioga High School in 1947, and the following year, she wed Billy John Midkiff, with whom she shared five and a half decades of marriage before his passing; the couple became the parents of two sons, Bill and Terry, and over the years, their family grew to include six grandchildren, Jason, Gretchen, Shane, and Tracey Midkiff and Preston and Patrick Husted, as well as three great-granddaughters, Emma, Carson, and Gracelyn; and

WHEREAS, In 1956, Mrs. Midkiff began a rewarding career with Chance Vought that would go on to span 30 years; she retired from the company, then known as Ling-Temco-Vought, in 1986; and

WHEREAS, Sustained by an abiding faith, Mrs. Midkiff was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ; in her spare time, she enjoyed watching sports of every kind; and

WHEREAS, Although Dorothy Midkiff will be deeply missed, those who were privileged to share in her love and friendship will forever remember the joy and kindness she brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dorothy Louise Midkiff and extend heartfelt condolences to all those who mourn her passing; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
