R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |
|
death of Browning Lamar Ball Jr. of Denton on March 26, 2017, at the |
|
age of 76; and |
|
WHEREAS, Lamar Ball was born in Troy, Tennessee, on August 1, |
|
1940, to Browning and Mozelle Ball, and he grew up with the |
|
companionship of a sister, Kerry; after graduating from high school |
|
in 1958, he earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the |
|
University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1962; he later attended the |
|
Harvard Business School Program for Management; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Ball embarked on a successful 35-year |
|
career in banking, accepting a position with C&S Bank in Atlanta, |
|
Georgia, where he was in charge of bookkeeping; he moved to Houston |
|
in 1979 to join the Bank of the Southwest, and in 1984, he became CEO |
|
of MBank Fort Worth; from 1989 until his retirement in 1998, he |
|
served as chair and CEO of First State Bank of Texas in Denton, |
|
which he has been credited with restoring to good financial health; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, In his second career, Mr. Ball was chair of the board |
|
and CEO of Smart Start, an ignition interlock company in Irving, and |
|
at the end of his life, he was a director for Intelligent |
|
Fingerprinting, a company based in Cambridge, England; he also |
|
served as a director of the Bank Administration Institute, the |
|
University of North Texas Foundation, and the Flow Healthcare |
|
Foundation; in addition, he was vice chair and director of North |
|
Texas Public Broadcasting and director and treasurer of the Fort |
|
Worth Fat Stock Show; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ball was a devoted husband to his wife of 20 |
|
years, Barbara, and he took great pride in his children, David, |
|
Shannon, Jason, Allison, and Meredith, his stepchildren, Angie and |
|
Jill, and his grandchildren, Nathan, Kaylan, Olan, Lulu, Alexandra, |
|
Olivia, Wyatt, Ian, Tommy, Lilah, and Charlie; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Lamar Ball will be deeply missed, he will |
|
forever be a source of inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Browning Lamar |
|
Ball Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lamar Ball. |
