R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Candace Printz of El Dorado High School in El Paso
  has been selected as one of five finalists in the Leadership
  Secondary category for the 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education
  Awards; and
         WHEREAS, In cooperation with the Texas Association of School
  Administrators, H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards
  in 2002 as a way of recognizing the passion and creativity of public
  school teachers and administrators; the Leadership Award honors
  teachers with 10 to 20 years of experience in the classroom, and
  winners receive a $10,000 check for themselves and a $10,000 grant
  for their schools; and
         WHEREAS, An art teacher at El Dorado High School, Candace
  Printz instructs 9th through 12th graders in introductory art,
  International Baccalaureate art, and sculpture classes; through
  her creative teaching style, she encourages her students to find
  their own unique form of self-expression, and one of the projects
  she assigns involves organizing an art show from start to finish,
  from curating the work and designing the installation to writing
  about the individual pieces; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has further distinguished
  herself by winning a national contest held by Barnes & Noble, in
  partnership with Penguin Random House and Chelsea Clinton, that was
  designed to encourage educators to take an active role in their
  communities; Ms. Printz came up with an innovative idea to host a
  cleanup project and recycle the collected materials into art
  pieces; her proposal has since come to fruition as the It's Your
  World Project, which has developed an international traveling
  exhibition for the art created by its participants; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Printz holds a bachelor's degree in art from The
  University of Texas at El Paso and is working toward a master's
  degree in art education at Texas Tech University; and
         WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is of paramount
  importance to the future of the Lone Star State, and in her role as a
  high school art teacher, Candace Printz has set a standard of
  excellence to which all in her profession may aspire; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Candace Printz on her selection as
  a 2017 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award finalist and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Printz as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
