R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Sharyland Independent School District |
|
celebrated the completion of the new Horacio "Lacho" Garza Jr. |
|
Agriculture Science Facility in May 2017, and this provides a |
|
welcome opportunity to pay tribute to Mr. Garza for his long and |
|
accomplished career as an educator; and |
|
WHEREAS, An alumnus of Texas A&M University--Kingsville, |
|
Mr. Garza graduated with a bachelor's degree in agriculture |
|
economics in 1982 and went on to earn teacher and horticultural |
|
certification from the university, as well as a master's degree in |
|
agriculture education; after beginning his career with the school |
|
district as a student teacher at Sharyland High School in 1983, he |
|
became an agriculture science teacher at the school later that |
|
year, and he earned promotion to head of the career and technology |
|
department in 1986; he served on a number of Sharyland committees as |
|
well, and his tenure with the district ultimately spanned 32 years |
|
before he retired in 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Garza has also been extensively involved in |
|
agriculture education at the state and federal levels through his |
|
involvement with such groups as the National FFA Organization, the |
|
Texas FFA Association, the National Association of Agricultural |
|
Educators, and the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of |
|
Texas; moreover, he has held a variety of leadership roles with a |
|
host of local boards and committees; and |
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding work, Mr. Garza |
|
was selected as the Agriculture Workers State Teacher of the Year |
|
for 2004 and the Sharyland ISD Secondary Teacher of the Year for |
|
2003-2004; moreover, he was presented with a Distinguished Service |
|
Award and an Honorary American Degree by the national FFA in 2003 |
|
and an Honorary Lone Star Degree by the state FFA in 1987; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Lacho Garza has devoted |
|
himself to helping students build a strong foundation for future |
|
success, and he may indeed reflect with pride on the positive |
|
difference he has made in the lives of numerous young Texans; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Horacio "Lacho" Garza Jr. on his |
|
outstanding career with the Sharyland Independent School District |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness and |
|
fulfillment; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Garza as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
