R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Hubert Jones is retiring from Anna High School in |
|
June 2017, drawing to a close a notable tenure as a coach and |
|
educator; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of Memphis, Texas, "Hoot" Jones |
|
distinguished himself as a track and field athlete throughout high |
|
school and went on to run the 440-yard dash and the mile relay for |
|
Abilene Christian College, advancing all the way to the 1969 NCAA |
|
meet; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones began his coaching career in 1970, and in |
|
the eight years that followed, he worked with track, football, and |
|
basketball programs at schools in Carrizo Springs, Clear Creek, |
|
Morton, and San Antonio; he then returned to his hometown, where he |
|
worked in his family's grocery business for the next 18 years, but |
|
he eventually went back to coaching when an opportunity opened up |
|
with the Memphis High School girls' track team; and |
|
WHEREAS, For the past decade, Mr. Jones has lent his skills |
|
and expertise to Anna High School as a health and professional |
|
communications teacher and as head girls' track and field coach; he |
|
has also served as head coach for the Lady Coyotes cross-country |
|
team, which, under his able guidance, made its first state |
|
appearance in 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding Texan enjoys the love and support |
|
of his wife, Connie, in all his endeavors, and he takes great pride |
|
in his two daughters and three grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, For almost three decades, Hoot Jones has helped |
|
teach young Texans important lessons about teamwork and commitment, |
|
and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many accomplishments as |
|
he looks forward to the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Hoot Jones on his retirement |
|
from Anna High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for the |
|
future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Coach Jones as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
