R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Entrepreneurs and civic leaders Paul and Charla |
|
Vinyard received the 2017 Tom Landry Leadership Award from Dallas |
|
Baptist University on April 1, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Named for the legendary Dallas Cowboys football |
|
coach, the Tom Landry Leadership Award is presented annually by the |
|
university to individuals from North Texas who excel in their |
|
professions, exhibit exceptional leadership, and demonstrate |
|
exemplary personal integrity and a high level of commitment to |
|
serving their community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Paul Vinyard and his late wife, Mary Beth, founded a |
|
series of restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; the first, |
|
Bubba's, opened in Dallas in 1981, and 12 years later, the couple |
|
started Babe's Chicken Dinner House in Roanoke; in the years that |
|
followed, Babe's expanded to nine locations in the region, and in |
|
2006, the Vinyards opened Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes in Decatur; today, |
|
the restaurants continue to thrive, assisted by Mr. Vinyard's |
|
children, Joel and Tiffany; and |
|
WHEREAS, After the death of Mary Beth Vinyard, Mr. Vinyard |
|
was fortunate enough to find love again, and in 2009, he married |
|
Charla Vinyard; she has enjoyed a successful career in real estate, |
|
and her volunteer work includes service on the Women's Auxiliary |
|
Board, the Mission Arlington and Mission Metroplex boards, and the |
|
Tom Landry Leadership Award Dinner Committee; in addition, the |
|
couple are active members of the First Baptist Church of Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through their outstanding leadership and deep |
|
religious faith, Paul and Charla Vinyard continue to make their |
|
community a better place in which to live and work, and they are |
|
truly deserving of this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Paul and Charla Vinyard on their |
|
receipt of the 2017 Tom Landry Leadership Award and extend to them |
|
sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Vinyard as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
