R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
|
memories of J. B. Owen Jr. of Waco, who passed away on March 5, |
|
|
2017, at the age of 88; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, J. B. Owen was born in Mathis on November 19, 1928, |
|
|
to Jesse B. Owen Sr. and Sarah Margaret Reed Owen; he shared a |
|
|
loving relationship with his wife, Lillian, for nearly 53 years, |
|
|
and together they raised three children; later in life, the couple |
|
|
were blessed with nine grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After earning a bachelor's degree in business |
|
|
administration from Texas State University, Mr. Owen worked for |
|
|
Texas Farm Bureau Insurance for more than four decades, until his |
|
|
retirement; he was an elder at Highland Baptist Church, and for 35 |
|
|
years, he taught Sunday school at several area churches; in |
|
|
addition, he was a member of the Woodway City Council, and he was |
|
|
active with the Rotary Club, Gideons International, and the Waco |
|
|
Girls Club; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Owen lived a rich and purposeful life devoted to |
|
|
his family, his community, and his faith, and memories of his |
|
|
kindness, his optimism, and his wonderful sense of humor remain to |
|
|
comfort and inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of J. B. Owen Jr. and |
|
|
extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
|
|
Lillian Holley Rector Owen; to his children and their spouses, |
|
|
Richard and Barbara Rector, Holley and Don Evans, and J. B. Owen III |
|
|
and Sharon Owen; to his grandchildren, Cherie Rector Huey, Joshua |
|
|
Rector, Anya Evans Dixon, Christopher Evans, and Drew, Maddie, |
|
|
Paige, Allison, and Reagan Owen; to his sister, Barbara Sunderman; |
|
|
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of J. B. Owen |
