R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Renita Newton has been presented with a Community
  Service Award from the TRIO Islanders Organization at Texas A&M
  University--Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, The TRIO Islanders Organization is part of the
  university's Programs for Academic Student Support (PASS)
  initiative, which furthers the goals of TAMU--CC by providing
  resources to low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented
  students; in receiving a Community Service Award, Ms. Newton was
  recognized for participating in a number of local service projects
  coordinated by TRIO Islanders; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate student at TAMU--CC, Ms. Newton is
  working toward a master's degree in counseling with a dual emphasis
  on clinical mental health and addictions; she plans to pursue a
  career working with at-risk youth afflicted by mental health and
  drug or alcohol abuse issues; and
         WHEREAS, Renita Newton is indeed deserving of this
  prestigious honor, and she may look forward to a future bright with
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Renita Newton on her receipt of a
  TRIO Islanders Organization Community Service Award and extend to
  her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Newton as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
