R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and passion drew to a close |
|
with the untimely passing of Justin B. Unruh of Austin on December |
|
27, 2016, at the age of 41; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Amarillo, Justin Unruh graduated from |
|
Tascosa High School and went on to become a die-hard Texas Longhorn; |
|
he spent much of his life working in Austin, where he was hired by |
|
State Representative Geanie Morrison in 1998 to run her first |
|
election campaign, and he went on to serve for 18 years as her chief |
|
of staff; hardworking and dedicated, he was driven by a love for his |
|
home state and its people, and he successfully oversaw the crafting |
|
and passage of legislation that continues to positively impact |
|
Texans across the state; in the course of his job, he treated |
|
everyone with respect and courtesy, no matter which side of the |
|
issues they took, and ultimately endeared himself to a multitude of |
|
people at the statehouse; and |
|
WHEREAS, In his leisure hours, Mr. Unruh often went hunting |
|
and fishing, and the time that he spent with his friends on these |
|
excursions was always the most enjoyable and memorable part of the |
|
experience for him; he frequently served as the deer camp cook, and |
|
his signature dish of ribs and beans was considered to be without |
|
peer by all who tasted it; in addition, he avidly followed the UT |
|
football, basketball, and volleyball teams, and he was proud to |
|
have been one of the lucky fans who were present in Pasadena, |
|
California, to watch the Longhorns win the 2005 football national |
|
championship; and |
|
WHEREAS, Wherever he went, Mr. Unruh was seldom without his |
|
faithful dog, Guero, by his side; he was blessed with a loving |
|
family as well as a large circle of friends and colleagues, and he |
|
brightened their lives with his warmth, his wry sense of humor, and |
|
his contagious smile; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although his death has brought tremendous sorrow, |
|
Justin Unruh made a profound and unforgettable impression on |
|
countless people, and they will forever find comfort in remembering |
|
the wonderful times they shared with him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Justin B. Unruh and |
|
extend heartfelt condolences to all those who mourn his passing; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Justin |
|
Unruh. |
