R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life devoted to the service of others drew to a
  close with the passing of former Texas state representative
  Benjamin Albert Glusing on May 3, 2016, at the age of 100; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Rudolph and Katherine Glusing, Ben
  Glusing was born in Redfield, Kansas, on February 3, 1916, and grew
  up with the companionship of his sister, Mary, and his two brothers,
  John and James; after earning a bachelor's degree in economics at
  Washburn College in Topeka in 1937, he moved to Corpus Christi and
  went to work as a broadcaster for KRIS radio; and
         WHEREAS, Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941, Mr. Glusing was
  stationed in Brownwood with a military police unit when Pearl
  Harbor was attacked, and he went on to serve his country with pride
  in the Pacific theater; following the completion of his military
  service in 1946, he studied law at Georgetown University and
  subsequently settled in Kingsville, where he worked initially with
  the Kleberg County attorney's office; he later went into private
  practice, and for more than a quarter of a century, he numbered the
  King Ranch among his clients; he also enjoyed a distinguished
  career in state government, winning his first election to the Texas
  House of Representatives in 1952 and serving his constituents in
  Kenedy, Kleberg, and Nueces Counties for five consecutive terms,
  until 1963; and
         WHEREAS, Imbued with a deep affection for his community,
  Mr. Glusing devoted countless hours to its service; he was a member
  of the Kingsville Noon Rotary Club for 67 years, and on his 65th
  anniversary with the club it made him an Honorary Rotarian, the
  highest award the organization can confer; he also helped to found
  the Kleberg-Kenedy County Water Control Improvement District, now
  known as the South Texas Water Authority; in addition, he held
  membership on the Texas Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and in
  2002, he joined in launching a two-year capital campaign to
  renovate the abandoned train depot in town and turn it into a
  museum; moreover, he served in a number of positions with the Church
  of the Epiphany, where he was a valued parishioner; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Glusing was joined in matrimony to Nell Buchanan
  Jack in 1956, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that
  spanned 22 years, until her death in 1978; he was a caring father to
  James Glusing and a doting stepfather to Sarah and Josephine
  Foster, and later in life, he was blessed with five grandchildren,
  Laura, William, Kristine, Johnathan, and Benjamin, and two
  great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Addison; and
         WHEREAS, A public servant and civic leader whose
  contributions have touched the lives of countless fellow citizens,
  Ben Glusing will long be remembered with admiration and affection
  in the town he was proud to call home; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable
  Benjamin Albert Glusing and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who
  mourn his passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ben
  Glusing.
