R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jessica Barrera has been presented with a Community
  Services Award and an Outstanding Award from the TRIO Islanders
  Organization as well as a Rising Star Award from the Student Support
  Services program at Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, The TRIO Islanders Organization and the Student
  Support Services program are both part of the university's Programs
  for Academic Student Support (PASS) initiative, which furthers the
  goals of TAMU--CC by providing resources to low-income,
  first-generation, and underrepresented students; in receiving a
  Community Services Award, Mrs. Barrera was recognized for her
  participation in numerous TRIO Islanders community service
  projects, and the organization also honored her for her
  demonstrated leadership abilities and her campus involvement with
  the Outstanding Award; furthermore, she earned a Student Support
  Services Rising Star Award for her notable academic achievements;
  and
         WHEREAS, Currently in her junior year, Mrs. Barrera is
  working toward a degree in accounting and management information
  systems, and she plans to attain a master's degree, an accounting
  license, and a Ph.D. in pursuit of a career as a college professor;
  moreover, she serves as treasurer of the TRIO Islanders
  Organization and will hold the offices of vice president and
  secretary during the 2017-2018 school year; and
         WHEREAS, Jessica Barrera is indeed deserving of these
  prestigious honors, and she may look forward to a future bright with
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Barrera on her receipt of a
  Community Services Award and an Outstanding Award from the TRIO
  Islanders Organization as well as a Student Support Services Rising
  Star Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
