R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Mark A. Baker will be taking office as president
  of the American Osteopathic Association on July 22, 2017, and this
  provides a fitting opportunity to celebrate his long and
  distinguished career; and
         WHEREAS, The AOA represents 130,000 osteopathic physicians
  and medical students, and Dr. Baker is the first Texan to head the
  association since 1985; and
         WHEREAS, The son of an osteopathic physician, Dr. Baker
  earned his medical degree in 1976 as a member of the third
  graduating class of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine; he
  began his impressive 40-year career by working as an osteopathic
  family physician, and he later became a board-certified osteopathic
  radiologist and a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of
  Radiology; over the years, he has dedicated countless hours to
  teaching and mentoring the students of his alma mater, which
  presented him with the Founders' Medal in recognition of his
  outstanding service; and
         WHEREAS, Committed to the advancement of the field of
  osteopathy, Dr. Baker has been a part of the AOA House of Delegates
  for more than a quarter century, serving as speaker of the house
  from 2000 to 2005, and he was a member of the board of trustees from
  2005 to 2017; moreover, he held the office of president of the Texas
  Osteopathic Medical Association from 2001 to 2002; and
         WHEREAS, For four decades, Dr. Mark Baker has proven himself
  a skilled and caring physician and radiologist as well as a leader
  in his profession, and he may indeed take great pride in his many
  accomplishments as he takes on the responsibilities of his new
  position; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Mark A. Baker on his
  appointment as president of the American Osteopathic Association
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Baker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
