R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of former
  Dallas City Council member Donald W. Hill, who passed away on May
  13, 2017, at the age of 65; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Wooldridge and Mary Hill, Don Hill was
  born in Austin in 1951; he completed his bachelor's degree in
  history at Lamar University and went on to graduate magna cum laude
  from the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law;
  in 1978, he joined the U.S. Department of Labor in Dallas, and he
  later entered private practice, specializing in civil litigation
  and employment law; his achievements included a 1993 discrimination
  lawsuit against the City of Dallas that led to the promotion of 17
  African American detectives; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hill first won a seat on the city council in
  1999; re-elected three times, he served as mayor pro tem; he worked
  to facilitate commercial development in Victory Park, to bring a
  University of North Texas campus to Dallas, and to ensure that
  minority vendors were considered for city contracts; he also served
  as a member of the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System Board, and
  he shared his expertise with many committees, including the
  Finance, Audit, and Accountability Committee, the Economic
  Development and Housing Committee, and the Transportation and
  Environmental Committee; moreover, he served the National League of
  Cities as a member of the Community and Economic Development Policy
  Committee; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Hill was recognized by numerous
  organizations; he was named Community Man of the Year for 2000, and
  he received the Celebration of African American Men Award and the
  Mutual Assistance Association for the Ethiopian Community
  Certificate of Recognition; and
         WHEREAS, Affable and outgoing, Don Hill will be deeply missed
  by his family and many friends, but he will forever hold a special
  place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of the Honorable
  Donald W. Hill and extend sincere sympathy to his loved ones; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Don Hill.
