R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Texas State Trooper Bill Davidson lost his life on
  April 14, 1992, and the 25th anniversary of his death offers a
  fitting opportunity to honor his memory; and
         WHEREAS, Trooper Davidson was critically wounded during a
  traffic stop on Highway 59 near Edna on April 11, 1992, and he died
  of his injuries at a Victoria hospital three days later; he was 43
  years old; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Fort Hood, Bill Davidson joined the
  Texas Department of Public Safety in 1973, and he was regarded with
  great admiration and affection by his fellow officers for his calm
  and steady professionalism in the performance of his job; he earned
  eight commendations over the course of his career, including one
  for his peaceful resolution of a hostage situation in 1985; and
         WHEREAS, Stationed in Edna, Trooper Davidson served two terms
  on the city council, and he was the president of the Jackson County
  Little League Association; he was also a valued member of First
  Baptist Church of Edna; and
         WHEREAS, Trooper Davidson was a devoted husband to his wife,
  Linda Sue Cousins Davidson, and a loving father to his two children,
  Kimberly and Trey; and
         WHEREAS, Every day, the men and women of Texas law
  enforcement put themselves at great risk to serve and protect their
  fellow citizens; Trooper Davidson gave his life in the line of duty,
  and his sacrifice is deserving of our eternal respect and
  gratitude; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of State Trooper Bill
  Davidson and honor his exemplary service to the State of Texas; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill
  Davidson.
