R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Panhandle High School Pantherettes proved
  themselves one of the finest basketball teams in Texas by capturing
  the 2017 University Interscholastic League 2A state championship on
  March 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio; and
         WHEREAS, The Pantherettes combined a strong defense with
  precision shooting to compile an impressive overall record of 30
  wins and just 6 losses and finished the regular season as
  cochampions of District 2-2A; they began their playoff run with
  double-digit wins over Vega, Farwell, Abernathy, and Irion County
  High Schools and followed those performances with a victory over
  their district rival Claude High School to earn a trip to the state
  tournament; and
         WHEREAS, After besting the squad from Woden High School in
  the semifinals, the Pantherettes faced off against Martin's Mill in
  the championship game; the score remained close throughout the
  hard-fought contest, but with deft shooting from the field and
  clutch free throws in the closing minutes, Panhandle ultimately
  clinched a 50-43 win to secure the state title and cap an
  unforgettable season; and
         WHEREAS, Macalle Melton, Rylee Albracht, and Grace Kuehler
  were named to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play,
  and the Pantherettes also received valuable contributions
  throughout the year from the other members of the roster: Masyn
  Reining, Haley George, Hunter Heck, Karson Powers, Kinley Graham,
  Lainey Choate, Bree Chavez, Margaret Smith, Rebecca Urbanczyk, Bree
  Baker, Riley Hedrick, and Ella Satterwhite; the team also benefited
  from the able guidance of head coach Rob Schmucker and assistant
  coaches Sheena Schmucker and Mikel Tucker, as well as from the
  assistance of statisticians Kaylee Jackson, Kyli Pace, and Luke
  Schmucker, video operator Shayla Gandy, and managers Shaylee Beck,
  Paityn Green, and Jasmyn Hernandez; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring
  commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes have
  become a source of great pride to their school and their community;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Panhandle High School girls'
  basketball team on winning the 2017 UIL 2A state championship and
  extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
