R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The girls' track and field team of Union Grove High
  School in Gladewater reached the pinnacle of success by winning the
  Class 2A state championship at the 2017 University Interscholastic
  League Track & Field State Meet; and
         WHEREAS, Facing off against the other top high school
  athletes from across the state at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on
  May 12 and 13, the Lady Lions were proudly represented in individual
  events by senior Cheyenne Grubbs, who captured the gold medal in the
  300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.3 seconds, and junior Summer
  Grubbs, who placed first in the long jump with a distance of 17
  feet, 10.25 inches; and
         WHEREAS, In the team events, Summer Grubbs combined forces
  with Shayla Gallagher, Kyra Winn, and Hanna Chambliss to clinch the
  gold medal in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1 minute, 43.84
  seconds; later in the meet, the quartet of Summer Grubbs, Cheyenne
  Grubbs, Ms. Winn, and Ms. Chambliss took second in the 4x400-meter
  relay with a time of 4 minutes, 0.06 seconds, which broke the
  existing state record; and
         WHEREAS, Their exceptional performances enabled the Lady
  Lions to best the runner-up by nine points and earned them the
  distinction of becoming the first team in school history to win a
  state title; throughout the season, these talented
  student-athletes benefited from the able guidance of head coach
  Barry Woodruff; and
         WHEREAS, The members of the Union Grove High girls' track and
  field team have excelled through skill, hard work, and an enduring
  commitment to performing at the highest level, and they are a source
  of tremendous pride to their classmates and their many supporters
  in the local community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Union Grove High School girls'
  track and field team on winning the 2017 UIL 2A state championship
  and extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Lady Lions as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
