R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Deputy Joseph A. Cheatham has rendered exemplary
  service to the citizens of Texas during his 50-year career in law
  enforcement; and
         WHEREAS, Joseph Cheatham was only 19 years of age when he
  joined the Dallas Police Department in 1967, and he went on to work
  35 years with the agency, including a quarter century of service as
  a motorcycle officer; highly respected by his peers and the public
  alike, he was the recipient of a number of honors and in 1983 was
  presented with both a Life Saving Award and a Police Commendation;
  and
         WHEREAS, This veteran peace officer concluded his service
  with the Dallas Police Department in 2002 and then began a five-year
  tenure as chief of police with the City of Calvert; he has spent the
  last decade as a patrol sergeant with the Robertson County
  Sheriff's Office, and on May 28, 2017, he is officially marking his
  50th year of police work; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout a full half century in uniform, Joseph
  Cheatham has fulfilled the duties of his profession with the
  highest level of dedication and integrity, and he may indeed
  reflect with pride on his many achievements as he celebrates this
  special milestone; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Deputy Joseph A. Cheatham for 50 years of
  service as a law enforcement professional and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Deputy Cheatham as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
