R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, July 15, 2017, marks the 65th wedding anniversary of
  Jim and Joan McLaughlin of El Paso, and this joyous event provides a
  fitting opportunity to reflect on their rewarding journey together
  as husband and wife; and
         WHEREAS, Jim McLaughlin and the former Joan Donovan were
  joined in matrimony on that memorable day in 1952 at New Post Chapel
  at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; over the years, they have watched their
  treasured family grow to include five children, Jim McLaughlin Jr.
  and his wife, Kathy, Robert McLaughlin and his wife, Colleen, Kathy
  McLaughlin, Laurie O'Beirne and her husband, Patrick, and Mauri
  Howell and her husband, David, and they have welcomed 14 beloved
  grandchildren into their lives; and
         WHEREAS, Valued residents of El Paso for more than 50 years,
  the couple have given generously of their time and talents to many
  local civic organizations; Mr. McLaughlin retired from the U.S.
  Army as a lieutenant colonel, and his efforts in behalf of his
  fellow Texans have included chairing the El Paso Mountain
  Committee, starting the Central District Civic Association, and
  serving the William Beaumont Army Medical Center Catholic Church
  community; additionally, he has chaired the El Paso Police
  Department's Citizen Advisory Commission and held membership on the
  Civic Center board; Mrs. McLaughlin has contributed to the
  important work of such groups as the Assistance League of El Paso,
  the Woman's Club of El Paso, and the Women's Chamber of Commerce;
  and
         WHEREAS, The six and a half decades of marriage that Mr. and
  Mrs. McLaughlin have shared is eloquent affirmation of the meaning
  of love and commitment, and their enduring union is an inspiration
  to all who know them; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jim and Joan McLaughlin on their
  65th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
