R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jake Merrell, a junior at Valley High School in
  Turkey, Texas, achieved great distinction by winning three Class 1A
  state championship titles at the 2017 University Interscholastic
  League Track & Field State Meet; and
         WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in
  Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 11 and 12,
  Mr. Merrell captured a trio of gold medals with times of 9 minutes,
  38.23 seconds, in the 3,200-meter run, 4 minutes, 23.79 seconds, in
  the 1,600-meter run, and 1 minute, 54.1 seconds, in the 800-meter
  run; moreover, he now holds the conference record in all three
  events; and
         WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for
  high school track and field athletes, this talented young Texan has
  ably represented his school, and he will cherish his memories of
  this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jake Merrell on winning three gold
  medals at the 2017 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Merrell as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
