R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Jake Merrell, a junior at Valley High School in |
|
|
Turkey, Texas, achieved great distinction by winning three Class 1A |
|
|
state championship titles at the 2017 University Interscholastic |
|
|
League Track & Field State Meet; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joining the other top high school competitors in |
|
|
Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin on May 11 and 12, |
|
|
Mr. Merrell captured a trio of gold medals with times of 9 minutes, |
|
|
38.23 seconds, in the 3,200-meter run, 4 minutes, 23.79 seconds, in |
|
|
the 1,600-meter run, and 1 minute, 54.1 seconds, in the 800-meter |
|
|
run; moreover, he now holds the conference record in all three |
|
|
events; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By excelling in the state's premier showcase for |
|
|
high school track and field athletes, this talented young Texan has |
|
|
ably represented his school, and he will cherish his memories of |
|
|
this outstanding accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jake Merrell on winning three gold |
|
|
medals at the 2017 UIL Track & Field State Meet and extend to him |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Merrell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
