R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Edna Joan Clark Miller of Arlington celebrated her |
|
80th birthday on May 20, 2017, and she is also concluding a career |
|
as a piano teacher that spanned well over a half century; and |
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of John Spencer Clark and Edna Lord |
|
Clark, the former Joan Clark was born in Gonzales in 1937 and grew |
|
up in her hometown and in nearby Cheapside; she completed her |
|
bachelor's degree in music education at Texas Wesleyan College; and |
|
WHEREAS, She married a fellow musician, William "Bill" |
|
Hamilton Miller, on July 14, 1957, and they lived in Graham before |
|
settling in Arlington in 1963; the couple became the parents of two |
|
treasured daughters, Sheri Jo and Carol Ann, and today, Mrs. Miller |
|
takes great pride in a fine family that has grown to include 6 |
|
grandchildren, Sarah, Brian, Stephanie, Andrew, Allison, and |
|
Steven, and 19 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mrs. Miller has instructed |
|
approximately 800 piano students; she taught preschool music at |
|
First United Methodist Church in Arlington, where her husband was |
|
music director, and she also sang in the choir and played organ, |
|
piano, and handbell; subsequently, the Millers served as church |
|
musicians at New World United Methodist Church for 16 years; they |
|
both directed choirs and bell choirs, and Mrs. Miller was the |
|
organist and pianist until 2001; she continues to enjoy playing in |
|
the handbell choir and singing with her husband in the adult choir; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Joan Miller has brought joy to innumerable people by |
|
sharing her musical gifts, and it is indeed a pleasure to join her |
|
family and friends in marking these two momentous milestones in her |
|
life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Joan Miller on her 80th birthday |
|
and on her retirement and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Miller as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
