R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Josselyn Obregon of Del Mar College earned
  recognition at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association
  convention held in Dallas from March 30 through April 1, 2017; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1909, TIPA is considered the oldest and
  one of the largest collegiate press associations in the country,
  and today it hosts a wide range of journalism contests at its annual
  spring conference; this year, the Del Mar College newspaper, The
  Foghorn, placed first in Online Interactivity and second in
  Editorial, Overall Excellence, and Website Navigation, while the
  college's magazine, The Siren, finished second for Overall
  Excellence; and
         WHEREAS, In the individual categories, Ms. Obregon was
  awarded the first place prize for Radio Announcing Spanish, which
  was decided in an on-site live contest, and her separate entries in
  Spanish News Writing earned both the second and the third place
  awards; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Guatemala, Ms. Obregon studied
  communication and professional speaking at the University of San
  Carlos in Guatemala and also served as a member of the National
  Association of Sports Reporters in her home country; after moving
  to the United States in December 2013, she enrolled as a student in
  the English for Speakers of Other Languages Program at Del Mar
  College in 2015, and she intends to pursue a degree in journalism;
  as a contributor to The Foghorn, she shoots photographs and writes
  articles for the Spanish-speaking community; and
         WHEREAS, Through her outstanding work, Josselyn Obregon has
  contributed to Del Mar College's reputation for journalistic
  excellence, and she may take justifiable pride in her
  accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Josselyn Obregon on earning
  recognition at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association 2017
  spring convention and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Obregon as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
