R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Meagan Falcon of Del Mar College earned recognition |
|
|
at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention held in |
|
|
Dallas from March 30 through April 1, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1909, TIPA is considered the oldest and |
|
|
one of the largest collegiate press associations in the country, |
|
|
and today it hosts a wide range of journalism contests at its annual |
|
|
spring conference; this year, the Del Mar College newspaper, The |
|
|
Foghorn, placed first in Online Interactivity and second in |
|
|
Editorial, Overall Excellence, and Website Navigation, while the |
|
|
college's magazine, The Siren, finished second for Overall |
|
|
Excellence; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In the individual categories, Ms. Falcon was |
|
|
awarded first place for News Photo in Region 8 SPJ, qualifying for |
|
|
the national competition; she also received second place for Single |
|
|
Subject Presentation and Feature Story, third place for Information |
|
|
Graphic, and honorable mention for Multimedia Package; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This bright young Texan is majoring in advertising |
|
|
and public relations, digital media, and journalism; she first |
|
|
joined the Foghorn staff in 2014 and rose steadily through the ranks |
|
|
to become web editor; the recipient of a number of awards, she was |
|
|
named 2016 Designer of the Year by TIPA/TCCJA, and she was inducted |
|
|
into the 2016-2017 Del Mar College Hall of Fame; she further serves |
|
|
the college as a student-assistant social media specialist; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through her outstanding work, Meagan Falcon has |
|
|
contributed to Del Mar College's reputation for journalistic |
|
|
excellence, and she may take justifiable pride in her |
|
|
accomplishments; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Meagan Falcon on earning |
|
|
recognition at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association 2017 |
|
|
spring convention and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Falcon as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
