R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Chuck Brawner was sworn in as the new mayor of Katy
  on May 15, 2017, and this provides a fitting opportunity to
  celebrate his outstanding record of public service and civic
  engagement; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of the Katy area for 37 years,
  Mr. Brawner served as a volunteer police officer for the city from
  1982 to 1983, and he was a captain for the West I-10 Volunteer Fire
  Department from 1984 to 1989, as well as a member of the Fire
  District 48 board of directors; he went on to distinguish himself as
  the chief of police for the Spring Branch Independent School
  District for 21 years before retiring in December 2016; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brawner's achievements in law enforcement also
  include assignments as a security team leader at the 1996 Summer
  Olympics in Atlanta and as a joint commander with the Texas
  Department of Public Safety at a regional emergency response
  staging area during Hurricane Ike in 2008, and he held the office of
  president of the Texas Municipal Police Association; he gained
  experience with state and national policy issues as well, having
  been appointed by Governor George W. Bush to the Juvenile Justice
  Advisory Board and by Governor Rick Perry to the Federal Juvenile
  Justice Advisory Board; moreover, he served as chair of the Texas
  School Safety Center Advisory Board; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Brawner began his work in city government in
  2013, when he was elected to the Katy City Council, and he was
  appointed to the office of mayor pro tempore the following year; his
  involvement in the local community has also included service as
  president of the Katy High School Band Booster Club and as vice
  chair of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Merchandise
  Committee; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Brawner has enjoyed the
  love and support of Marcy Brawner, his wife of 30 years; the couple
  are active members of the Parkway Fellowship Church; and
         WHEREAS, Chuck Brawner has built an impressive record of
  service to his fellow citizens, and that experience is sure to prove
  valuable as he takes on the responsibilities of his new office; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Chuck Brawner on his election as
  mayor of Katy and extend to him sincere best wishes for success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Brawner as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
