R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Jon Weizenbaum will be retiring as commissioner of |
|
the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services on August 31, |
|
2017, after 13 years of outstanding service to that agency and more |
|
than two decades of employment with the State of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Austin, Jon Weizenbaum |
|
received master's degrees from The University of Texas at Austin |
|
School of Social Work and the LBJ School of Public Affairs; in 1988, |
|
he joined the Department of Human Services as a child protective |
|
services specialist, and he later gained additional experience in |
|
his field while employed as a social worker for the Casey Family |
|
Program and as a case manager for AIDS Services of Austin; from 1998 |
|
to 2002, he worked for the Texas Senate Committee on Health and |
|
Human Services, before spending two years with the Texas Commission |
|
on Drug and Alcohol Abuse as the director for communications and |
|
governmental relations; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Weizenbaum was hired by the Department of Aging |
|
and Disability Services in 2004; as director of the Center for |
|
Policy and Innovation, he was tasked with overseeing the |
|
development, coordination, and direction of policy initiatives and |
|
with the improvement of services through quality monitoring and |
|
reporting; his impressive work in that role led to his appointment |
|
as deputy commissioner in May 2006 and as commissioner of the agency |
|
in October 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, This hardworking and highly respected professional |
|
is blessed in all his endeavors with the love and support of his |
|
wife, Nancy, and his daughters, Camille and Emma; retirement will |
|
afford him the opportunity to spend additional time with his family |
|
and to pursue his hobbies of cycling, birding, and playing music; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Jon Weizenbaum's vision, dedication, and leadership |
|
have greatly benefited the work of the Department of Aging and |
|
Disability Services, and he may reflect with pride on all that he |
|
has accomplished in behalf of his colleagues and his fellow Texans; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jon Weizenbaum on his retirement |
|
from the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Weizenbaum as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
