R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Eight-year-old Zachary Cousin of Winnsboro
  demonstrated courage and presence of mind well beyond his years on
  April 29, 2017, when he helped rescue his family after a traumatic
  accident; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Holly and Seth Cousin, Zachary was
  accompanying his parents and his siblings, 10-year-old Carter and
  10-month-old Birdie, on a trip to visit relatives when they found
  themselves in the path of a tornado on Highway 98; the twister swept
  their sport utility vehicle off the roadway and sent it rolling
  several times; and
         WHEREAS, After regaining consciousness, Zachary saw that his
  parents and siblings were alive but badly injured; he first helped
  his older brother out of the back row of seats, and after escaping
  the SUV, the two boys made their way to the road, where their mother
  was trying to flag down a passing car for help; and
         WHEREAS, Zachary then returned to the SUV, where after
  several attempts, he was able to free his infant sister from her car
  seat; he carefully pulled Birdie through a small opening and then
  brought her to their mother; Zachary returned a second time to
  attempt to help his father, but Mr. Cousin was trapped inside the
  severely damaged vehicle; and
         WHEREAS, Zachary's mother was soon able to stop a passing
  motorist, who rushed her and the children to a nearby hospital; a
  short while later, first responders rescued Zachary's father using
  the Jaws of Life; fortunate to have survived this harrowing
  incident, the family continues to support one another as they
  recover from their injuries; and
         WHEREAS, In a dire situation, Zachary Cousin distinguished
  himself as an exceptionally brave and capable young Texan, and his
  remarkable heroism is an inspiration to all who know him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Zachary Cousin for his efforts to rescue
  his family after a serious vehicle accident and extend to him and
  his loved ones sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Zachary Cousin as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
