R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Bruce |
|
Livingston Collins Jr. of Corpus Christi, who died on May 3, 2017, |
|
at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, Bruce Collins was born in Corpus Christi on |
|
September 3, 1929, to Bruce and Lucile Collins; after graduating |
|
from Corpus Christi High School in 1946, he attended New Mexico |
|
Military Institute and earned a degree from Southern Methodist |
|
University in 1950; answering his nation's call to duty, he served |
|
in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954, and he continued to serve in |
|
the Air Force Reserves until 1960; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1954, Mr. Collins married the former Mary Ellen |
|
"Elenita" Riddick, and they shared their lives for 63 years; he was |
|
the devoted father of three children, Catherine Collins, Bruce L. |
|
Collins III, and Claire Schwarz, and later welcomed into his family |
|
five grandchildren and two great-grandsons; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan took justifiable pride in the |
|
houses he built, including one in Corpus Christi and three in the |
|
Hill Country, and in his active involvement in civic affairs; he was |
|
a keen sports fan, rooting for the SMU Mustangs, the Dallas Cowboys, |
|
and the San Antonio Spurs; above all else, he delighted in the time |
|
he spent sharing meals and traveling with his family and friends; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Bruce Collins lived a full and generous life |
|
surrounded by those he loved, and he will forever hold a treasured |
|
place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Bruce Livingston |
|
Collins Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his relatives and many |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bruce |
|
Collins. |
