R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever cherish their
  memories of Rubin S. Leal of Poteet, who died on January 22, 2017,
  at the age of 86; and
         WHEREAS, Rubin Leal was born in Poteet on October 27, 1930, to
  Sifredo Leal and Rugelia Sanchez, and he grew up with two brothers,
  Gilbert and Oscar, and three sisters, Emma, Estella, and Josie; he
  was the loving father of three children, Denise, Diana, and Donnie,
  and his family later grew to include 6 grandchildren and 11
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Leal served his nation
  during the Korean War; after his honorable discharge in 1953, he
  joined the Army Reserve, which he served for six years; in April
  2014, he was presented with the Korean Service Medal with three
  Bronze Stars and the Korean War Service Medal by U.S. Congressman
  Henry Cuellar at a ceremony in Poteet; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Leal was a life member of the Veterans of
  Foreign Wars Post No. 6970 in Poteet; in his leisure time, he
  enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he took special delight in the time
  he spent with his grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family and his country,
  Rubin Leal earned the admiration and affection of all who were
  privileged to know him, and he will always hold a treasured place in
  the hearts of his loved ones; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rubin S. Leal and
  extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  daughters, Denise Sanchez and Diana Maldonado; to his
  grandchildren, Charles A. Sanchez and his wife, Jaclyn, Jay
  Sanchez, Celeste Leal, Lisa Torres and her husband, Carlos, Michael
  Mendez, and Nina Rodriguez and her husband, Rick; to his sister,
  Josie Martinez; to his son-in-law, Charles E. Sanchez; to his
  sister-in-law, Alicia Leal; to his 11 great-grandchildren; and to
  his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Rubin Leal.
