R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of Alvin Clement Michalik of Rhineland, who died on March |
|
12, 2017, at the age of 88; and |
|
WHEREAS, "Mitch" Michalik was born in Rhineland on November |
|
1, 1928, and graduated from his hometown high school in 1947; in |
|
January 1951, he was joined in matrimony to Mary Magdalen Homer, and |
|
"Mag and Mitch" shared more than half a century of happiness before |
|
her passing in 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Two weeks after his wedding, Mr. Michalik entered |
|
the U.S. Army; during his active duty in Korea, he took part in the |
|
battle for the Haean-myon Valley, also known as the Punchbowl, |
|
where he commanded two 50mm Quad Track gunnery tracks not far from |
|
the 38th Parallel and endured nightly mortar attacks; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life in 1953, Mr. Michalik and |
|
his wife settled in Rhineland, where he made his living as a paint |
|
contractor; he was the proud father of four children, Donna, Donny, |
|
David, and Doug, and later in life he was blessed with three |
|
grandchildren, Jordan, Joey, and Maddie; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Michalik was active in St. Joseph's Parish, |
|
where he enjoyed singing in the choir; he was also a lifelong member |
|
of the Knights of Columbus, and he often helped to book the bands |
|
for the community's Rhineland Dances; he played in an ensemble |
|
himself, the Lone Star Band, and he took special delight in |
|
jitterbugging with his wife; and |
|
WHEREAS, A loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, |
|
and a generous and lively friend, Mitch Michalik lived a rich and |
|
purposeful life, and he leaves behind a legacy that will continue to |
|
inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Alvin Clement |
|
Michalik and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his |
|
passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Alvin |
|
Michalik. |
