H.R. No. 2626

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Rachel Dunnam has ably served her fellow Texans as
director of environmental affairs in the office of State
Representative Charlie Geren and as assistant clerk for the House
Administration Committee during the 85th Regular Session; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dunnam's resourcefulness, initiative, and able
handling of her responsibilities have earned the appreciation of
both her colleagues and members of the committee and have
contributed to the work of addressing issues that face citizens
across the Lone Star State; and
WHEREAS, A rising junior at The University of Texas at
Austin, Ms. Dunnam is majoring in business and marketing and
pursuing a certificate in business and public policy, and in spite
of being tasked with a roster of duties that include washing the
office's dirty dishes and filing the representative's personal
financial statements, she has maintained a 3.9 grade point average
  during the legislative session; and
WHEREAS, Together with recognizing Ms. Dunnam for her
service to the Texas Legislature, this resolution will also serve
to right a longstanding wrong; in 2005, the 79th Texas Legislature
passed the now infamous "Cupcake Amendment," which was named
"Lauren's Law" after Ms. Dunnam's sister; in truth, the idea for the
law was Rachel Dunnam's, not her sister's, so today we pass
"Rachel's Resolution," which is not as good as "Rachel's Law," but
it will have to do; and
WHEREAS, In spite of this injustice, this esteemed public
employee has performed her duties with skill and dedication, and
  she is indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work;
  now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Rachel Dunnam for her service as
director of environmental affairs in the office of State
Representative Charlie Geren and as assistant clerk for the House
Administration Committee and extend to her sincere best wishes for
continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of "Rachel's Resolution" be
prepared for Ms. Dunnam as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
