R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Gus Cargile Jr. of Corpus Christi is celebrating his
  95th birthday on July 31, 2017, and this occasion provides a welcome
  opportunity for family and friends to express the love and
  affection they hold for him; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Corpus Christi in 1922, Gus Cargile opened
  his own store when he was only 11 and sold snow cones and candy on
  the weekends; he set up a fireworks stand for the Fourth of July and
  New Year's as well, and while a student at Corpus Christi High
  School, he worked for his father at Gus Cargile Lumber Company; and
         WHEREAS, Following graduation, Mr. Cargile attended Texas
  A&M University and went on to enlist in the United States Navy in
  1942; commissioned as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps
  the following year, he became a pilot and squadron flight
  instructor, and after World War II, he continued to serve in the
  Marine Reserve until 1952, attaining the rank of captain; and
         WHEREAS, In the early part of his career, Mr. Cargile was a
  pilot for Earl P. Halliburton; he later founded five businesses,
  Coastal Bend Manufacturing Company, Nueces Pallet Company,
  Jalapeno Steel Company, Saxet Gun Shows, and Corpus Christi Gold
  Mine; in addition, after working for Industrial Fabricators and
  Mill Supply for five years, he bought the shop in 1970 and built it
  into one of the largest in the area; he passed ownership to the next
  generation in 1984, but the following year, he opened the
  Swap-A-Rama flea market, which he continues to run today, while
  also consulting for Industrial Fabricators and Saxet Gun Shows; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cargile married the former Ada Gary, and they
  became the proud parents of seven children, Gary, Laura, Caroline,
  Mary Claire, Gus, John, and Ada; today, he enjoys spending time with
  his 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; also an avid
  traveler, he has visited 70 countries on 6 continents, and his next
  adventure will be a trip to Thailand; and
         WHEREAS, Meeting life's challenges with resilience,
  optimism, and determination, Gus Cargile is an inspiration to many
  people, and he holds a special place in the hearts of all who are
  privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Gus Cargile on his 95th birthday
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Cargile as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
