R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A 60th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of |
|
mutual devotion and shared experiences, and J. C. and Dorothy Smith |
|
of Buna celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on April |
|
19, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jasper Conley Smith Jr. and the former Dorothy Del |
|
Stanley were joined in matrimony in 1957 in Cairo Springs; over the |
|
years, they have been blessed with a treasured family that includes |
|
their children, Sunee Del Smith Stephens and Larkin Andrew Smith |
|
and his wife, Carla, as well as their grandchildren, Haley Bingham |
|
and her husband, Thomas, Taylor Smith, Shannon Stephens, and Sierra |
|
Fisher and her husband, Jefferson; and |
|
WHEREAS, Respected members of the Jasper County community, |
|
Mr. and Mrs. Smith continue to maintain a family residence on the |
|
farmland just outside of Buna purchased by Mr. Smith's grandfather |
|
in 1911; for 20 years, they operated Double S Christmas Tree Farms |
|
on that property and on the land acquired by Mrs. Smith's |
|
grandfather in Cairo Springs in 1900; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith retired following a notable 30-year |
|
career with NASA in Clear Lake, where he worked as a flight trainer |
|
for the Apollo and Skylab missions as well as during the early days |
|
of the Space Shuttle program; Mrs. Smith was an employee of the La |
|
Porte Independent School District for two decades, serving |
|
primarily as a librarian; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Smith have enjoyed six decades of |
|
abiding love and affection for each other, and they are among an |
|
exceptional group of men and women who can claim such a lasting |
|
commitment; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate J. C. and Dorothy Smith on their |
|
60th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
