R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Jackelyn Rosalee Barrera of Roma received a Best
  Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 20th annual Mariachi
  Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition held in San Antonio
  in 2014; and
         WHEREAS, Nearly 1,000 young mariachi musicians participated
  in the contest, considered the world's largest and most prestigious
  such event, and Jackie Barrera took home top honors in the high
  school vocalist category; in March 2016, she traveled with fellow
  competition winners to Michigan to take part in a three-day concert
  residency, performing on a bill with the renowned Mariachi Vargas
  de Tecalitlán; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Barrera is a student at Roma High School, where
  she has distinguished herself as a violinist in the award-winning
  Mariachi Nuevo Santander; she has earned Best Performer recognition
  at the University Interscholastic League State Mariachi Festival,
  and in 2014, she appeared as a vocal finalist on Telemundo's La Voz
  Kids; and
         WHEREAS, Jackie Barrera has demonstrated a steadfast
  commitment to excellence in developing her musical talent, and her
  hard work and dedication are paving the way for a future bright with
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jackelyn Rosalee Barrera on
  winning a Best Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 2014
  Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition and extend
  to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Barrera as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
