R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The robotics team from Bushland High School reached |
|
the pinnacle of success by winning the University Interscholastic |
|
League Class 1A-4A FIRST Tech Challenge state championship held at |
|
the Austin Convention Center on May 20, 2017; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the FIRST in Texas Foundation, the |
|
FIRST Tech Challenge provides middle and high school students with |
|
opportunities to design, build, program, and operate robots while |
|
also developing important STEM skills; and |
|
WHEREAS, After their impressive performance at the regional |
|
level, the students from Bushland High advanced to the state |
|
tournament, where they earned third place in the preliminaries; |
|
they entered the semifinal and final rounds in an alliance with |
|
fellow Panhandle school Kelton STEAM Academy, and together the two |
|
teams dispatched their opponents, going undefeated in both sets of |
|
matches and claiming the championship title; and |
|
WHEREAS, Benefiting from the able guidance of coaches Melissa |
|
Cochran and Kenny Miller, the Bushland High team received valuable |
|
contributions from the four members of its roster: Jack Smalligan, |
|
Hunter Miller, Mason Reed, and Justin Cochran; and |
|
WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the state contest, the |
|
members of the Bushland High robotics team have demonstrated |
|
tremendous skill, initiative, and an enduring commitment to |
|
excellence, and they are a source of great pride to their school and |
|
community; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Bushland High School robotics |
|
team on winning the 2017 UIL FIRST Tech Challenge state |
|
championship and extend to its members sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the squad as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
