R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Communities across the Lone Star State and beyond
  are observing National Mental Health Month in May 2018; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by Mental Health America, National Mental
  Health Month serves to educate people about the importance of
  mental health to their overall state of well-being through local
  events, screenings, and media outreach; this worthwhile initiative
  makes valuable information available to the public; and
         WHEREAS, Mental Health America is the nation's oldest
  advocacy organization addressing the full spectrum of mental health
  and substance use conditions; it is dedicated to promoting mental
  health, preventing or ameliorating potentially serious adverse
  mental and substance use conditions, and achieving victory over
  mental illnesses and addictions through advocacy, education,
  research, and service; and
         WHEREAS, Affecting all aspects of life, mental health
  problems are both real and painful, but a wide range of beneficial
  resources exist to help citizens and their families cope with these
  challenges; Texas has made huge strides but still has work to do to
  make sure all Texans can and know how to receive the mental health
  care that they need; nearly 80 percent of Texans say they have a
  close friend or family member who has experienced a mental
  health-related issue, while only 31 percent of Texans feel that
  they know where to go to get help; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 2018 as National Mental Health
  Month and encourage all Texans to learn more about mental health
  issues.
