R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
  those saddened by the passing of Lilia Pena of Hebbronville on May
  14, 2017, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Hebbronville on May 1, 1932, Lilia Pena was
  the daughter of Jesus J. and Olivia Cadena Pena; she enjoyed a
  40-year tenure with Jim Hogg County, having begun her career as a
  typist in the county clerk's office in 1953; she went on to serve as
  deputy and chief deputy in that office for many years before being
  elected county and district clerk in 1974, and she fulfilled the
  duties of that position for five terms until her retirement in 1994;
  and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Pena lovingly raised a daughter, Fantina, and
  she also took great pride in her two grandchildren and six
  great-grandchildren; a woman of strong faith, she was a lifelong
  member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Hebbronville and
  its affiliated organization, La Sociedad de Josefa Ortiz de
  Domínguez; and
         WHEREAS, Although Lilia Pena is deeply missed, those who were
  privileged to share in her love and friendship will forever
  remember her with great admiration and affection; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lilia Pena and extend
  sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter,
  Fantina Garcia, and her husband, Victor; to her grandchildren,
  Clarissa Sweatt and her husband, Ivan, and Claudia S. Esquivel and
  her husband, Gilbert; to her great-grandchildren, Emilio Salinas,
  Carina Esquivel, Eden Saenz, Victor M. Garcia III, Elias Saenz, and
  Violet Garcia; to her nephews, Jorge A. Pena and his wife, Amalia,
  and Javier F. Pena and his wife, Beverly; to her special cousin,
  Jovita Montalvo; and to her many other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lilia Pena.
