R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Kassandra Juarez of Rio Grande City received a Best |
|
|
Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 22nd annual Mariachi |
|
|
Vargas Extravaganza National Vocal Competition held in San Antonio |
|
|
in December 2016; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, this contest showcases hundreds of young |
|
|
mariachi musicians from across the nation who gather to compete in |
|
|
vocal, group, and songwriting categories; considered the world's |
|
|
largest and most prestigious such event, the Mariachi Vargas |
|
|
Extravaganza also features workshops as well as performances by a |
|
|
number of major artists; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A student at Rio Grande City High School, Ms. Juarez |
|
|
took home top honors in the high school vocalist competition after |
|
|
dazzling a panel of judges with her skilled musicianship and |
|
|
technical facility; in winning the title, she also earned the |
|
|
opportunity to perform in concert with the renowned Mariachi Vargas |
|
|
de Tecalitlán; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Kassandra Juarez has demonstrated a steadfast |
|
|
commitment to excellence in developing her musical talent, and her |
|
|
hard work and dedication are paving the way for a future bright with |
|
|
promise; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Kassandra Juarez on winning a Best |
|
|
Mariachi Vocalist in the U.S. award at the 2016 Mariachi Vargas |
|
|
Extravaganza National Vocal Competition and extend to her sincere |
|
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Juarez as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
