A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to transportation of students entitled to a public |
|
|
education grant. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 29, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 29.2021 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 29.2021. TRANSPORTATION. (a) The school district in |
|
|
which a student resides shall provide each student attending in |
|
|
accordance with this subchapter another school in the district or a |
|
|
school in a contiguous school district with transportation free of |
|
|
charge to and from the school the student attends. |
|
|
(b) The school district in which a student resides may |
|
|
contract with a private entity or another school district for |
|
|
transportation services necessary to provide transportation |
|
|
required under Subsection (a). |
|
|
(c) The school district in which a student resides shall |
|
|
provide each student attending a school in another school district |
|
|
in accordance with this subchapter that is not contiguous to the |
|
|
district in which the student resides with transportation free of |
|
|
charge to and from the school the student would otherwise attend. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 29.203(f), Education Code, is repealed. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
