A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a study by the State Board of Education on the |
|
|
instructional day and academic year requirements necessary to |
|
|
complete the required curriculum in public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. (a) The State Board of Education shall conduct |
|
|
a study to determine, for kindergarten through 12th grade, the |
|
|
length of the instructional day and of the academic year that would |
|
|
be necessary to allow for the completion of the required curriculum |
|
|
identified by the board under Section 28.002, Education Code. |
|
|
(b) Not later than October 1, 2018, the board shall deliver |
|
|
a report containing the results of the study to the governor and the |
|
|
legislature. |
|
|
(c) This Act expires September 1, 2019. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect only if a specific |
|
|
appropriation for the implementation of the Act is provided in a |
|
|
general appropriations act of the 85th Legislature. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
