A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the regulation of licensed specialists in school |
|
psychology. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 501.260, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsections (d), (e), (f), and (g) to read as follows: |
|
(d) A person licensed under this section may be employed by |
|
and practice in a private school. |
|
(e) A person may not use the title "licensed specialist in |
|
school psychology" or "school psychologist" unless the person holds |
|
a license issued under this section. |
|
(f) A person who holds a license under this section may not |
|
use the title "nationally certified school psychologist" unless the |
|
person holds the appropriate credentials as designated by the |
|
National Association of School Psychologists or a successor |
|
organization. |
|
(g) A person who holds a license under this section may not |
|
use a title that represents that the person is licensed under |
|
Section 501.252 unless the person holds a license under that |
|
section. A person who holds a license under this section may not |
|
use the title designated by the board under Section 501.259 unless |
|
the person holds a license under that section. |

SECTION 2. Sections 501.260(e), (f), and (g), Occupations |
|
Code, as added by this Act, apply only to conduct that occurs on or |
|
after the effective date of this Act. Conduct that occurs before the |
|
effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|
date the conduct occurred, and the former law is continued in effect |
|
for that purpose. |

SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
