A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to requiring the Texas Education Agency to conduct a study |
|
regarding school district consolidation in Cameron County. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. DEFINITION. In this Act, "agency" means the |
|
Texas Education Agency. |
|
SECTION 2. STUDY REGARDING SCHOOL DISTRICT CONSOLIDATION. |
|
The agency shall conduct a study regarding school district |
|
consolidation in Cameron County. In conducting the study, the |
|
agency shall consider: |
|
(1) any cost savings associated with economies of |
|
scale achieved through school district consolidation; and |
|
(2) any impact of school district consolidation on |
|
entitlements under the Foundation School Program. |
|
SECTION 3. REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Not later than December |
|
1, 2018, the agency shall submit a report that includes the results |
|
of the study and any associated recommendations to: |
|
(1) the governor; |
|
(2) the lieutenant governor; |
|
(3) the speaker of the house of representatives; |
|
(4) the presiding officer of each legislative standing |
|
committee with primary jurisdiction over primary and secondary |
|
education; and |
|
(5) the members of the house of representatives and |
|
the senate whose district includes any part of Cameron County. |
|
SECTION 4. EXPIRATION. This Act expires September 1, 2019. |
|
SECTION 5. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect |
|
immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members |
|
elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas |
|
Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for |
|
immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
