CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The primary responsibility of public officials is to |
|
keep our citizens safe; and |
|
WHEREAS, Law enforcement officials who refuse to comply with, |
|
honor, and fulfill requests included in an immigration detainer |
|
issued by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement |
|
jeopardize the safety of the citizens of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, Failing to honor immigration detainers invites |
|
illegal and criminal activity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Successful law enforcement requires the |
|
coordination and cooperation of many agencies and entities across |
|
all levels of government; and |
|
WHEREAS, Failing to coordinate and cooperate with other law |
|
enforcement agencies is a failure of a sworn duty to protect the |
|
public and uphold the laws of our state and nation; and |
|
WHEREAS, With our border yet to be secured, municipalities |
|
should not enact policies that turn a blind eye to the criminal |
|
activity of those who enter our country illegally and then continue |
|
to break our laws; and |
|
WHEREAS, Efforts to secure our border must be accompanied by |
|
eliminating lures such as sanctuary policies that attract illegal |
|
immigrants; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
call on sheriffs' offices in all 254 counties in Texas to comply |
|
with, honor, and fulfill requests included in an immigration |
|
detainer issued by United States Immigration and Customs |
|
Enforcement. |
