SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize San Jacinto County on the occasion of the signing of
the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, which takes place on
  February 14, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Since 80 percent of wildfires start within two
miles of communities, it is vital to the safety of citizens that
communities near forests have plans in place to prevent wildfires
and to mitigate wildfires when they occur; and
WHEREAS, San Jacinto County is the 18th Texas county to
pioneer new standards in safety by implementing a local fire
prevention plan under the advisement of the Texas A&M Forest
  Service; and
WHEREAS, Local volunteer firefighters worked with the forest
service to assess specific risks in the area, and community
members joined the effort to create and finalize the protection
plan; the team of volunteers also dedicated numerous hours to
educating the public on the new prevention and mitigation
  strategies; and
WHEREAS, The Community Wildfire Protection Plan will help to
ensure the safety and well-being of the residents of San Jacinto
County and the protection of Sam Houston National Forest, and it
will serve as a model for other Texas counties to follow; now,
  therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
Legislature, hereby commend all who helped create the San Jacinto
County Community Wildfire Protection Plan for their efforts to
keep their fellow citizens safe and to preserve the natural
beauty of the Lone Star State; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
