SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Silver Wings Ballroom and Betty and Jimbo Hafner, the venue's owners, on the occasion of the ballroom's 40th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Since its opening in 1976, the Silver Wings Ballroom has operated as a skating rink, a dance hall, and an event facility; the landmark venue has remained a steady source of entertainment for youth and families in Washington County and the surrounding area; and

WHEREAS, Over the last four decades, an estimated 1.5 million people have passed through the Silver Wings' doors; featured guests have included such legendary greats as George Strait, Steve Warner, and Willie Nelson; and

WHEREAS, Ballroom owners Betty and Jimbo Hafner are beloved members of the community who contribute greatly to the cultural and economic vitality of the region; their acclaimed venue hosts and supports numerous local events, including the Brenham Maifest and the Washington County Fair, and it is currently home to Brenham's Cowboy Church; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the Silver Wings Ballroom has remained a favorite site for a broad range of local community and family events in Washington County, and its 40th anniversary is indeed cause for celebration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th Legislature, hereby congratulate Betty and Jimbo Hafner and all associated with the Silver Wings Ballroom on 40 years of success and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the venue as a memento of this special anniversary.
