SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 145
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join citizens across the state in celebrating February 8, 2017,
  as Communities In Schools Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas was established
  in Houston in 1979; the organization's mission is to surround
  students with a community of support that will empower them and
  help them to stay in school and achieve their goals; and
         WHEREAS, The organization builds partnerships with school
  districts, businesses, and communities in order to provide
  critical services to students who are at risk of dropping out of
  school; and
         WHEREAS, In the years since its inception, Communities In
  Schools of Texas has expanded to include 28 programs that
  annually serve more than 93,000 at-risk students in 942 Texas
  schools; among students participating in the program, 92 percent
  make improvements in their classroom behavior, and 95 percent are
  promoted to the next grade level; and
         WHEREAS, Communities In Schools of Texas is a program of
  immeasurable importance that helps young Texans prepare for the
  years ahead and build bright and successful futures; it is indeed
  fitting that we honor those associated with the organization for
  their work on behalf of the students of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th
  Legislature, hereby commend all who have contributed to the
  success of Communities In Schools of Texas and extend to them
  best wishes for an enjoyable Communities In Schools Day at the
  State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
  organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
