SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 155
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Houston Hispanic Forum on the occasion of its 31st |
|
|
annual Career and Education Day, which is taking place on |
|
|
February 18, 2017; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Career and Education Day is an effort to lower |
|
|
the rates of students who drop out of high school each year and |
|
|
an opportunity to educate students and parents about the many |
|
|
academic and career pathways available beyond high school; |
|
|
approximately 13,000 students from districts throughout the |
|
|
region take part in the yearly event; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, More than 100 representatives from colleges, |
|
|
universities, trade schools, nonprofit organizations, and |
|
|
private corporations from around the world attend Career and |
|
|
Education Day to showcase an array of career or collegiate |
|
|
options; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This year, the Houston Hispanic Forum has |
|
|
partnered with a number of community organizations to provide |
|
|
specialized services to students; attendees can visit a |
|
|
mentorship section to connect with mentors from their local |
|
|
communities, and a Newcomers Circle has been established to |
|
|
provide support to young refugees and students who have only |
|
|
recently arrived in the area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Houston Hispanic Forum is committed to |
|
|
empowering and inspiring students of the Lone Star State, and |
|
|
Career and Education Day will help young Texans gain the |
|
|
knowledge they need to succeed in our modern society; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Houston |
|
|
Hispanic Forum for their efforts to help young Texans build |
|
|
rewarding paths for the future and extend to all participants |
|
|
best wishes for a successful 2017 Career and Education Day; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the forum as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
