SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 161
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Elta Joyce Murphey McAfee, who has been named the 2016 |
|
|
Citizen of the Year by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Elta McAfee has been a |
|
|
vital part of the cultural arts scene in San Angelo, and her |
|
|
legacy of contributing to the community for the greater good has |
|
|
been an inspiration to all those who know her; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, She has been active with the San Angelo Symphony |
|
|
board for more than half a century, and nearly every arts |
|
|
organization in the city has benefited from her generosity and |
|
|
expertise; she is a founding member of the San Angelo Museum of |
|
|
Fine Arts, and in 1983, she was instrumental in fund-raising |
|
|
efforts for the San Angelo Civic Ballet's first performance of |
|
|
The Nutcracker; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of her $3 million donation toward |
|
|
the restoration of the City Auditorium facility, the renovated |
|
|
auditorium will be renamed the Elta Joyce Murphey Performance |
|
|
Hall and Stage at San Angelo City Auditorium; other beneficiaries |
|
|
of her efforts include Angelo State University, the Angelo Civic |
|
|
Theater, the San Angelo Junior League, the House of Faith, and |
|
|
Baptist Memorial Hospital; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, She has been an integral part of the fabric of |
|
|
life in San Angelo for many years, and it is truly fitting that |
|
|
she receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Elta Joyce Murphey McAfee on her |
|
|
commitment to excellence in the arts and extend congratulations |
|
|
to her on being named San Angelo's 2016 Citizen of the Year; and, |
|
|
be it further |

|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
